Welcome to the Ecoboat !
The EcoBoat is a floating classroom, and beautiful Ha Long Bay is its campus for a unique-to-Vietnam program of hands-on, experiential environmental education.
The EcoBoat Project is an initiative of Fauna & Flora International, the world's first international conservation society, and is funded by a grant from the Darwin Initiative. Our partner in the project is the Ha Long Bay Management Department —the Vietnamese agency responsible for stewardship of the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site.
An EcoVoyage is a bit like a camping trip - the accommodations on board are basic, the days are full, and everyone quickly become friends. We challenge young people to stretch their muscles and their minds. We pay a lot of attention to safety. We know how to talk to kids whose first language isn't English. Everyone's happy to dig in to ample, tasty meals. When the mattresses are spread at night, no one has trouble falling asleep.
The EcoBoat experience encourages thoughtful reflection, too. A recurrent theme throughout the trip is mankind's impact on the natural setting, and our responsibility toward it. Students debate the rival claims of economic development and conservation, consumption and preservation, and they imagine different futures for this very special corner of the earth and sea.
